Dear wine lovers,
Finally, the Guntersblum primary school, where Marie (7 years old) and Luc (9 years old) go, is back in normal operation, much to our and the children's delight. Lilo (5 years old) can go to kindergarten again, almost like before. We all hope that it stays that way and are looking forward to a happy summer. At the farmers' market in Darmstadt-Eberstadt, where Stéphanie makes customers happy with our cheese and I with our wine, a bit of relaxation has returned for you and for us.
Wet records
We need a lot of luck in the vineyard now! The last few days have brought us record rainfall of 90 litres per square metre in one day. As far as I can remember, we have never had so much rain here. The rain makes the vines grow, but also the Peronospora fungus, and this just at the time of the vine blossom. Organic winegrowing The only option is copper hydroxide, which, however, is quickly washed away again in such amounts of rain, so that I have to keep "replenishing": nine hours on the tractor, always hoping that the weather holds and that the tractor can manage the 30% gradient that we have in some vineyards, despite the completely soaked soil.
So it could happen that we have to deal with major crop losses. So the weather will once again determine our future. I wonder whether the weather has become more moody or whether I have become older and therefore less relaxed. But complaining doesn't help. My father always said when such "apocalypses" happened: "There will still be a few grapes to harvest at the end."
Our wine recommendations for summer
After wine shipping boomed in recent months, things have now - unfortunately - become very quiet again in the summer. But in addition to working in the vineyard and in the cellar, promoting the fine wines is also one of my many tasks. And I particularly enjoy doing that with these wines:
The 2020 he Pinot Gris of the Obersten Gänseweide »Edition Goldwespe« has matured in a wooden barrel from the Harz to create a wonderfully delicate wine. Only a few bottles of the 2019 he Riesling Ludwigshöher Devil's Head »Edition Goldwespe« We have in our cellar. However, they show its full development potential and its long storage capacity! Our 2020 he Pinot Blanc is dry, expressive and fine. Its freshness makes it the ideal wine for warm summer evenings.
We have put together these three recommendations for the summer for you in a wine package and look forward to your orders! Except in You can also order by phone at 06249 905044.
Celebrate summer with us with cheese, wine and more
We cordially invite you to a small, colorful summer market in Guntersblum. Friday, July 30 From 3 p.m., Stéphanie's cheese cart will be in front of the winery and we will be offering our delicious Demeter wines for tasting and serving. The Unkraut-Manufaktur will also be there with its wild herb specialties; anyone who wants to can take part in a short wild herb hike. There will be organic honey from the Palatinate and French croissants and baguettes. Jochen Günther will also delight us with his homemade music.
We look forward to seeing you! Registration is not necessary.
With warm greetings from Guntersblum
Stéphanie and Johann Schnell with Marie, Lilo and Luc
